Brand Stewardship & Freelance Design
Following a major brand refresh in 2025, the Mechanics’ Institute was seeking a designer to translate their new identity into a variety of high-priority collateral. As a freelance partner, I was brought on to help shape and solidify this new visual direction through "as-needed" design support for their key organizational milestones and public-facing materials.
My goal was to leverage the new brand guidelines to create sophisticated, consistent assets that honor the Institute’s rich history while feeling modern and relevant. I focused on integrating their unique architectural elements into the brand's new visual language.
I designed a high-end invitation for the James Lick Legacy Society Luncheon, featuring the building’s iconic spiral staircase. I also developed the collateral for a Chess Appeal fundraising campaign, including a custom letter and reply slip. To ensure brand consistency in the physical space, I designed A-frame sandwich board for street-level event promotion. My most recent work involved designing a series of custom bookmarks that highlight the building’s historic architecture, turning a functional item into a branded keepsake.
By thoughtfully applying the new brand identity across print, stationery, and environmental signage, I have helped the Mechanics’ Institute establish a cohesive and professional presence post-refresh. My work has played a key role in bringing their new brand to life, ensuring that every touchpoint from donor luncheons to the sidewalk in front of their building feels intentional and unified.
