Common Sense Education: Digital Literacy & Well-Being Curriculum

Common Sense Education needed to refresh its widely used Digital Citizenship curriculum to better address the evolving digital landscape for K-8 students. The goal was to create a modern, engaging, and comprehensive resource that felt cohesive with the video content.

My role as lead designer was to develop a new visual system that would be applied to over 100 lessons, ensuring a unified brand experience. I needed to establish a scalable template, manage external contributors, and oversee all visual assets to create a fun, vibrant, and modern curriculum.

I collaborated closely with the Video Team to extract and apply core design elements (textures, imagery, accent fonts) from existing video assets to the lesson materials. Using existing brand guidelines for typography and shapes, I developed a robust template for 147 lessons. I also managed a team of five contractors for lesson materials, character design and iconography, providing creative direction and ensuring all assets met project goals. I also oversaw the updated look for the topic badges.

The new Digital Literacy & Well-Being Curriculum successfully launched with a cohesive, professional, and updated look. By creating a unified brand experience and a comprehensive design system, the curriculum now offers ready-to-use resources for educators and provides a more engaging, accessible learning experience for students, families, and the school community.
